White sage is an evergreen shrub found in the American South West and is known to have antimicrobial properties. The practice of burning sage originated from the Native Americans and is still used by some tribes in their cultural traditions. Today it is commonly used to "smudge", or clean or purify the air of negativity. Studies have shown that thujone, a chemical found in salvia sages, is a mildly psychoactive, and is found in many plants used in cultural spiritual rituals to enhance intuition.
